In architectural terminology, a basilica is a church constructed according to a certain ancient Christian floor plan. In canonical language, a basilica is a church to which the Holy See has accredited that name as a total of honor.   One of the privileges of receiving the honor of Basilica status is the right to have a Coat-of-Arms. The coats of arms are traditionally shown with an image of the papal tiara and the keys of Peter as an external ornament of the escutcheon. The tiara is usually set above the escutcheon, while the keys are in saltire, passing behind it (formerly also en cimier, below the tiara and above the shield). Here are some pictures of the solemn Proclamation of Varapuzha Church to the status of Minor Basilica.    The pontifical sacrifice of the Holy Mass was Concelebrated by Archbishop Joseph Kalithiparambil together with Archbishop Emeritus Francis Kallarakkal, Bishop Joseph Karyil, Bishop Joseph Karikkasherry, and Bishop Alex Vadakaumthala. The papal Decree was read in Latin and Malayalam by Chancellor Fr Ebijin Arackal and Provincial Fr Thomas Marottickaparambil OCD respectively.        

Verapoly or Varapuzha is a common patrimony for every Keralite.... Irrespective of religion, irrespective of denomination, irrespective of rites........ at this juncture...... being declared as a Basilica lets bow our head & salute..  

  വരാപ്പുഴ അതിരൂപതയിലെ കർമ്മല മാതാവിൻറെയും വിശുദ്ധ യൗസേപ്പിതാവിന്റെയും നാമധേയത്തിലുള്ള വരാപ്പുഴ പള്ളി 'മൈനർ ബസിലിക്ക' പദവിയിലേക്ക് വരാപ്പുഴ അതിരൂപതയിലെ കർമ്മല മാതാവിൻറെയും വിശുദ്ധ യൗസേപ്പിതാവിന്റെയും ദേവാലയമായ വരാപ്പുഴ പള്ളി 'മൈനർ ബസിലിക്ക' പദവിയിലേക്ക്. വരാപ്പുഴ അതിരൂപതയിൽ ബസിലിക്ക പദവി ലഭിക്കുന്ന രണ്ടാമത്തെ ദേവാലയമാണ് ഇത്. വല്ലാർപാടം മരിയൻ തീർത്ഥാടന കേന്ദ്രമാണ് ബസിലിക്കാ പദവി ലഭിച്ച, വരാപ്പുഴ അതിരൂപതയിലെ മറ്റൊരു ദേവാലയം. വരാപ്പുഴ അതിരൂപത മെത്രാപ്പോലീത്ത ഡോ. ജോസഫ് കളത്തിപ്പറമ്പിൽ പിതാവ്, ഈ കാര്യങ്ങളുടെ ചുമതലയുള്ള റോമിലെ 'Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments' എന്ന തിരുസംഘത്തോട് ആവശ്യപ്പെട്ടതു പ്രകാരമാണ് ബസിലിക്ക എന്ന പദവി ഫ്രാൻസിസ് പാപ്പായുടെ അനുമതിയോടെ വരാപ്പുഴ Our Lady of Mount Carmel and St. Joseph (കർമ്മല മാതാവിൻറെയും വിശുദ്ധ യൗസേപ്പിതാവിന്റെയും ദേവാലയം) ദേവാലയത്തിനു ഇപ്പോൾ ലഭിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത്. 1659 ൽ മലബാർ വികാരിയാത്തു ആയി സ്ഥാപിതമായി , 1709 ൽ വരാപ്പുഴ വികാരിയത്തായി പുനർനാമകരണം ചെയ്യപ്പെട്ട് , പിന്നീട് 1886 ൽ അതിരൂപത ആയി ഉയർത്...
